Desmond King has been one of the focal points for the LA Chargers this offseason, unfortunately for the former Iowa Hawkeye, it has been because of constant trade rumors. King was great as a rookie, even better in year two but unfortunately regressed in a bad way in year three. He also was essentially suspended for one game for breaking the team’s rules and the Chargers basically signed his replacement in Chris Harris Jr.
I personally believe that King will bounce back, but the question is how big of an opportunity will he be given? Not only does the team have Harris Jr, but they also need to see what they have in last year’s second-round pick, Nasir Adderly. To put it simply, there is a logjam in the secondary and sometimes that leads to a storm of trade rumors.
The Chargers are in a bit of a pickle when it comes to trading him, though. He is a former All-Pro player and he clearly has a very high ceiling. But because of his 2019 regression, his trade value isn’t exactly sky-high at the moment.
The smart money says the Chargers will hold onto him, and if he does bounce back they will keep him around. If he doesn’t, they will let him walk because they have a lot of other key players they need to give new contracts to.
ESPN’s Field Yates recently brought up the idea of the Chargers potentially trading King to the Minnesota Vikings for offensive tackle Riley Reiff.
It’s an interesting idea, and the Chargers could use some more depth on the offensive line, but as our very own Jason Reed said here: the Chargers do really believe in the development of Trey Pipkins, or at least want to see if new offensive line coach James Campen can work his magic on him.
I just can’t see the Chargers trading King for a backup who would only see the field if Pipkins or Bulaga get injured.

Moroccan authorities deny using spyware to monitor critics
RABAT, Morocco (AP) – Moroccan authorities said they “categorically reject” an Amnesty International report claiming the government used surveillance software to spy on the phone of a prominent journalist and human rights activist.
In a report published this week, Amnesty said forensic analysis it carried out on the cellphone of Omar Radi indicated that his communications were monitored from January 2019 using technology developed by Israeli hacker-for-hire company NSO Group.
In a statement released late on Friday, Moroccan authorities rejected Amnesty’s “baseless allegations,” saying that the report serves agendas motivated by hostility against Morocco and competitors in the intelligence market.
Amnesty’s local director, Mohamed Sektaoui, was summoned by authorities Friday and asked to provide evidence “as soon as possible,” the statement said.
Radi was questioned by police on Thursday on suspicions of receiving funds linked to foreign intelligence services. He dismissed the allegations as “ridiculous.”
Radi was arrested last year after a tweet that defended anti-government protesters. He was subsequently put on trial in March this year, accused of insulting a judge with his tweet that slammed the prison sentences handed down to protest leaders. He received a four-month suspended jail sentence and a $50 fine.

Statement from the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada on June 27, 2020 | Markets Insider
OTTAWA, ON, June 27, 2020 /CNW/ – In lieu of an in-person update to the media, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, issued the following statement today:
“There have been 102,794 cases, including 8,508 deaths. 64% of people have now recovered. Labs across Canada have tested over 2,598,243 people for COVID-19 to date. Over the past week, an average of 38,000 people were tested daily, with 1% testing positive. These numbers change quickly and are updated daily in the evenings on Canada.ca/coronavirus.
There is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has had physical, mental, and emotional effects on Canadians. During this time, we are all undoubtedly feeling a range of emotions as we adjust to living with COVID-19. In the same way the pandemic has had a greater impact on the physical health of some Canadians, such as seniors, certain populations may be experiencing disproportionate mental health impacts. For some, the crisis and its impacts on our everyday lives may have heightened feelings of loneliness, sadness, distress or hopelessness.
As we observe Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Day in Ontario today, I would like to bring awareness to traumatic stress and PTSD, and remind all Canadians to do well-being checks with those around you. If you need help, you are not alone— please seek out mental health supports as early as you can.
While PTSD can affect anyone, regardless of background, we recognize that some may be at greater risk because of the type of job they do. This includes first responders, healthcare providers, personal support workers and members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) providing care to seniors in long-term care homes.
I would personally like to thank all front line and essential workers who have been taking care of Canadians throughout this crisis. We appreciate your sacrifices.
This is also a gentle nudge to remind you to take care of yourself, too. There are many resources available if you need support. Wellness TogetherCanada is a free online portal that will connect you with mental health and substance use resources, as well as counselling with mental health professionals. Public Safety Canada has also teamed up with the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment (CIPRST) to provide information and resources for public safety personnel through the CIPSRT COVID-19 Readiness Resource Project. If you need to talk, do not be afraid to open up and connect.”
